You're Not Alone

That £500 Price Tag Stopped Me Cold

I was ready to buy the Dyson Airwrap. My finger was literally hovering over the checkout button. Then I paused and thought: "Is there really nothing else out there?" So I did what I always do, I dug deeper. Here's what I found.

Why Your Hesitation Is Completely Valid

The Dyson Airwrap is genuinely good. But good doesn't always mean it's right for you, or worth the price. Here are the 5 things that made me stop and think twice. I bet you've thought about at least a few of these already.

1. £500+ Is Just... A Lot of Money

Let's be real. That's not a small purchase. That's a decision. That's the kind of money that makes you think about what else you could do with it. A vacation. Rent. Literally anything else.

And here's the thing, I kept asking myself: "Does a hair tool really need to cost this much?" The answer I kept coming back to was: probably not. There are other tools out there. Some of them do very similar things. For way less.

2. It's More Complicated Than It Looks

The Dyson comes with multiple barrels, multiple attachments, and honestly? It takes practice to figure out which one to use when. I watched the tutorials. Read comments on Tiktok, and still feel like girls are struglling with it.
When you're rushing in the morning, that's the last thing you want. You want to grab a tool and go. Not spend 10 minutes figuring out which barrel size is best for your current section of hair. Life's too short for that.

3. Heat Damage Is Still a Real Thing

Yes, Dyson says it has "smart heat control." But here's what I realised: any tool that uses heat can damage your hair. That's just physics. And if you're using it regularly, you're going to see some wear and tear over time.

I've got colored hair. I've got damage already. Do I really want to spend £500 on a tool that might make it worse, even if it's "less bad" than other tools? That didn't sit right with me. There have to be options that are gentler AND cheaper.

4. It Doesn't Work the Same for Everyone

All the Instagram videos show long, thick, wavy hair. Beautiful results. But what if you have short hair? Fine hair? Thick, coarse hair? The Dyson is designed for a specific hair type, and if that's not you, you might be spending £500 on a tool that doesn't even work well for your hair.

That's the part that really bothered me. Why would I pay premium price for a tool that might not even be designed for my hair type? That felt like a gamble I wasn't willing to take.

5. You're Paying for the Name, Not Just the Tool

Here's the uncomfortable truth: a lot of that £500 is going toward the Dyson brand. The marketing. The hype. The fact that everyone knows about it. But that doesn't mean it's the best tool. It just means it's the most famous. And once I realised that, everything clicked.

There ARE other tools out there. Tools that do similar things. Tools that might actually be better for your specific hair type. Tools that won't make you feel like you just spent a month's rent on a hair tool. You just have to know where to look.

You Were Right to Question It

If you clicked on this because you thought "£500 is too much for a hair tool", you were right.

Your instinct was correct. There's no shame in looking for alternatives. In fact, that's exactly
what you should be doing. I spent weeks researching other options. Testing them. Comparing them. And you know what?

I found tools that deliver similar results, work better for different hair types, and cost a
fraction of the price. Some are faster. Some are easier. Some are gentler on your hair. And all
of them are worth considering before you drop £500 on the Dyson.

i tested dozens of alternatives. here's my breakdown.
